Gents Dinner a Success

Gents Dinner a Success

Keith Johnstone25 May 2016 - 19:15

The 2016 Gentlemens Dinner was held at the Waveney House Hotel on 20th May. The guest speaker was Ex-England Fly Half Andy Goode

Despite the 2015-16 season being a difficult one for the senior section of Beccles Rugby Club there were still 140 present for the end of season dinner at the Waveney House Hotel. Both senior teams succumbed to relegation this season but this didn’t dampen the spirits as the club got together to celebrate the season.
A last minute change of speaker was smoothly overcome by the organisers. With original speaker Shaun Edwards suddenly unavailable some last minute negotiations saw Ex-England and Leicester Fly-Half Andy Goode brought in to entertain the masses. He proved a more than adequate replacement.
The main business of the evening was the handing out of the awards for the season. The Club-person of the year award went to Bev Howe for her faultless running of the Youth Hub facility.
For the second team Fabrice Deroubaix received the honours award after improvements which saw him become a regular call up to the 1st XV. The 2nd Team Players Player was Marcus Dyer after a string of solid performances in his first year of senior rugby.
The Young Player of the year went to Sam Puxley who after a few 2nd team games quickly progressed in to the 1st XV. He will be hoping to become a 1st team regular over the coming years and follow in his fathers footsteps.
For the 1st XV the Top Try Scorer award went to Stuart Armstrong, an award he is making his own. The Honours award went to Cemil Duruk who was a constant performer throughout the year. The Players Player award went to Keith Johnstone after a number of strong and committed performances throughout the season.
