With several players unavailable this week, we were grateful to welcome a few guest players from Ipswich as the game was played 14-a-side. Despite the altered lineup, the stage was set for a competitive encounter.
Ipswich flew out of the blocks and caught Beccles cold, racing into an early lead with a three-try burst inside the opening ten minutes. That fast start ultimately proved the difference between the two sides, but credit to Beccles, who responded superbly and battled hard throughout the remainder of the contest.
From that point on, the game was an evenly fought affair, with both teams throwing everything into every tackle, carry and ruck. Beccles showed great character to work their way back into the match, with tries coming from Thomas, Arthur and Noah, while two further scores from a borrowed player kept the pressure on Ipswich.
There were strong performances across the pitch, but special mention must go to Arthur for an outstanding display. However, the Man of the Match award went to Thomas, who was excellent from start to finish and led by example throughout a hard-fought game.
A spirited effort from the squad against a strong Ipswich side, with plenty of positives to take forward into the weeks ahead.
