BECCLES
21 v WYMONDHAM 19
Beccles
Bulls won their opening game of the season with victory over Wymondham.
With many players getting a run out in this trial game Beccles won by
21-19.
The match was played over four twenty minute quarters and new captain
Ling had a large number of players available.
Beccles were on the attack for much of the first quarter but a few early
season fumbles meant that they were not able to get on the score sheet.
In the end it was Wymondham who opened the scoring after a break away
gave them a converted try.
Beccles started the second quarter and were soon back level. A rolling
maul was set up from a line out and it was Rob Wilson who touched the
ball down. After this it was Wymondhams turn to go on the attack and they
were able to add two more tries, one of which was converted, to give a
half time score of 7-19.
Beccles had a good third quarter scoring two tries. The first came after
a flowing move which ended up with Thomas feeding Catchpole to go over
in the corner. The second came when Wade floated a well timed pass inside
to Sale to touch down. Wade completed an excellent kicking display when
he made it three conversions out of three, all from close to the touchline.
In the final quarter it was very tight. Beccles started off strongly trying
to add to their lead. However, with Hinsley spending his first ten minutes
of the season in the sin bin Beccles had to hold on for the last few minutes.
Their excellent defence limited Wymondham chances and the Bulls secured
a win by 21 -19.
This week Beccles entertain Diss for another warm up match before their
EDF Energy cup match away at Fullerians the week after.
