Beccles 20 v Upminster 20
Beccles let a winning position slip in the second half when they were held to a draw with Upminster. Despite leading for most of the game a late Upminster try gave a final score of 20 – 20. Beccles welcomed back a number of players from injury, including Captain Ling who has been out for 14 weeks with a dislocated shoulder. Beccles had the wind behind them in the first half and soon had Upminster under pressure. After a number of drives at the Upminster line the ball was fed wide to Hall who scored in the corner. Upminster replied with a penalty before Murray restored the five point advantage with a penalty of his own. Beccles were able to add another try before half time. A good move saw Musker McIntyre man of the match Hall score his second try in the corner. This gave a half time score of 13 – 3. With the wind behind them in the second half Upminster put Beccles under more pressure. The Beccles defence was strong and was unlucky to concede a try from a charged down kick. Upminster soon added a drop goal to make the scores level. Beccles began to exert some pressure of their own and soon had Upminster pinned on their own line. Beccles won a string of penalties and scrums before the referee awarded them a penalty try for persistent infringement by Upminster. Murray added the conversion. Upminster came back and put together a good move to score a try and the conversion brought the scores level. There was not much time left after the restart and Beccles couldn’t create a chance to win the game. The final score was 20 – 20. |
