Beccles were missing Hinsley, Rix, and Payne through injury. There chances were not helped when they lost captain Ling to a dislocated shoulder ten minutes in to the game. By this time Beccles were already 11 points down after South Woodham started quickly with a try and two penalties.

Beccles began to put some phases of play together and Murray was able to get a penalty to put Beccles on the scoreboard. The opposition responded with another converted try before Murray scored another penalty to make the halftime score 18-6.

Beccles were put under pressure in the second half. The Beccles defence put in a good effort against the fluent South Woodham backs. There was some good tackling particularly by Musker McIntyre man of the match Sale.
