Beccles 39 – Southwold 0

Beccles had a big win in their final game of the season against Southwold. They regained the Pony Moore Trophy, which they had lost the year before, with a victory by 39 – 0.

Beccles were able to send out a good side determined to put in a disciplined performance to make up for last years mistakes. After a VP’s lunch before the game their was a crowd of about three hundred on hand to watch the game.

Beccles were quickly in to their stride. A number of drives from the forwards were finished when Hinsley broke from the back of a ruck to power his way over in the corner. The conversion was missed but the second try soon followed. From a Southwold lineout right on their own line good pressure from Paul Wilson saw the ball fumbled back by Southwold. The ball dropped loose over the line and Johnstone was on hand to dive on it for a touch down. Murray added the conversion from the touch line.

There was time for one more try before half time. A good scrum by Beccles gave a solid platform and Arnold was able to cut through the defence to score a converted try. Thus gave a half time score of 19 – 0.

Beccles kept up the performance in the second half. Arnold was beginning to run the game from fly half. He made a break out of his own half and after passing a number of players he fed Pennington who scored. Wade added the conversion. Arnold added a cheeky little drop goal soon after this.

Beccles were beginning to overwhelm the opposition and continued to score points. A good move saw Sale score another try before Arnold added his second when he ran a good line to evade the opposition defence. This gave a final score of 39 – 0.

This was a good team performance and the whole team were made the Musker McIntyre man of the match. The second team also put in a good performance to beat Southwold  Seconds by 22 – 0 in Stuart Punts last game as captain. This made it an excellent day all round for Beccles Rugby Club.
