Beccles 6 v Crusaders 18
Beccles lost their last home league game of the season against local rivals Crusaders. Despite leading at half time Beccles put in a poor performance in the second half to be beaten by 18-6. Beccles were first on the score sheet when they won a penalty in the middle of the park. Murray scored the three points. Crusaders came back with a try when Beccles failed to defend a blindside break from the scrum. Beccles began to pressure Crusaders and added another penalty to go in to the lead. Beccles thought they had extended their lead when Arnold collected his own chip through and dived in at the corner. However, the referee ruled it out claiming a foot had brushed the touchline. This meant the score at half time was 6-5. Beccles performed badly in the second half and Crusaders were able to move clear. They scored a try after some poor tackling in the Beccles backline. Beccles were struggling in the scrum and line out and were kept in the game by some good cleaning up work by Musker McIntyre man the match David Rix. The Crusaders forwards then added another try and a penalty. Beccles tried to rally late on and put pressure on the Crusaders line but could not breakthrough. The game finished with a score of 18 – 6. Beccles now have one league game left away at Campion on Saturday. If they win they have a chance of equalling their best ever finish of sixth place.
