Canvey Island 14 v Beccles 11
Beccles were narrowly beaten away at Canvey Island in a hard fought encounter. Beccles left their come back too late as they went down by 14 – 11. Beccles played the first half in to a strong wind which meant any clearance kicks were difficult. Despite this they managed to dominate territory for long periods of the first half. Beccles were struggling in the set piece against a well drilled opposition and this meant they couldn’t turn the territory in to points. However, they were happy to reach half time only trailing by 6 – 0. Beccles had the wind in the second half and used it to play deep in their oppositions half. Beccles were using the ball well controlled by Musker McIntyre man of the match Marcus Sale. They halved the deficit when Wade added a penalty. Some ill discipline by the Beccles side cost them three points before they went back on the attack again. Canvey managed to break out of defence and a hopeful kick up field turned in to a try when an unlucky bounce beat the Beccles full back. Beccles increased the pressure on the opposition which resulted in a penalty which Wade kicked. With time running out Beccles went looking for a try and after a number of drives Hadridge was able to cross for try in the corner. Beccles were within three points but the final whistle went after the conversion attempt so they never got a chance of going for the win. Beccles play Sudbury at home on Saturday in what promises to be good game against a team towards the top of the table (KO 2:15).
