Match Reports for 2007/08

Bury St Edmunds II 18 – Beccles 14

Beccles produced a disappointing performance away at Bury. Beccles were in control of the game at half time but their performance dropped off and they were beaten by 18-14.

Beccles were missing a few key players but still thought they had a good chance of beating the Bury second string side. Beccles dominated the opening period of the game. They were soon leading when Payne cut through the defence and scored, untouched, under the posts. Wade added the conversion.

Beccles added another try before half time when Rob Wilson crashed over in the corner after a well worked lineout. Wade added an excellent conversion from the touchline to put Beccles in to a 14 point lead at half time.

The Beccles performance levels dropped off in the second half and Bury were soon back in the game. They scored two penalties and a try as ill discipline from the Beccles players cost them territory.

A head butt by the Bury prop on Maeer meant that the opposition were reduced to fourteen men late in the second half. As Beccles pressed forward to extend their lead a loose kick was intercepted by the Bury winger who had a clear run in to the posts. Beccles tried to come back but could not get their play flowing again. The final score was 18 – 14. The Musker McIntyre man of the match was Green.

This week Beccles travel to Basildon for a tough league match. They will be hoping to improve on this performance so they can pick up their first away league win of the season.
