Broadland 3 – Beccles 54

Beccles had a good warm up for their vital trip to Canvey Island on Saturday with a comfortable victory in a friendly at Broadland. Beccles scored regularly throughout the game and finished up winning 54-3.

Beccles took the opportunity to give some of the 2nd XV players a chance with the 1st XV with Pennington, Hewitt and Dyer given their chance. All three performed well and will get further chances in the future.

Beccles started the game well and were soon in front. After a number of drives close to the line Arnold found a gap in the defence and went over for a try. Beccles soon added to their score when Murray cut through the defence to score under the posts.

Wade and Gedney were next on the score sheet. Both run good lines and then crashed through a number of tackles to score. Broadland got on the score sheet with a penalty before Sale completed the scoring for the first half with another try.

Broadland played better in the second half and Beccles found it more difficult to score. Beccles broke out of defence and Frost sprinted away from the tacklers to score. Another try soon followed when Sale broke down the wing to score his second try.

As the end of the game neared Beccles put together one more try. Johnstone fed the ball inside to Porter who broke through the defensive line. He then unselfishly passed to Murray who scored under the posts. Murray added the conversion to take his point tally to 24 for the afternoon against his old club. He was made the Musker McIntyre man of the match.

Beccles travel to Canvey Island on Saturday knowing a win would open up a gap between them and the chasing pack and cement their place in the top half of the league.
