BECCLES
10-10 WYMONDHAM
Beccles
return to league action tomorrow after a two week break. They face high
flying Upminster at Beef Meadow looking to avenge an unlucky narrow defeat
earlier in the season.
Last Saturday Beccles played a friendly at home to Wymondham. Wymondham
came with a strong team and held Beccles to a 10 – 10 draw.
Ling took over as captain for the day with Rix taking a well earned rest.
He had to deal with a number of late call offs but eventually fifteen
Beccles players took the field.
Wymondham started quickly and were camped on the Beccles line. They never
penetrated the Beccles defence and it was Beccles who took the lead. Payne
intercepted a pass on the Beccles 22 and fed the ball to Hinsley. Hinsley
was caught just short of the line but Rob Wilson was on hand to take a
pass and score his first ever try for Beccles. Wade added the conversion.
Soon after this Beccles won a penalty in front of the posts and Wade extended
the lead.
Wymondham came back at Beccles and scored with a driven maul. They then
scored another unconverted try just before half when the winger touched
down in the corner. This gave a half time score of 10 -10.
In the second half both sides had chances but nobody was able to add to
the scoring. Both teams began to tire on the heavy pitch and the match
finished as a 10 -10 draw.
