WISBECH 10 - BECCLES 16

Beccles Bulls got off to a winning start in London Division 4 North East. They travelled to Wisbech and put in an excellent performance to win by 16 points to 10. Last time Beccles were in this league they won one away game in three seasons so this was a superb win against a side that finished 3rd in the division last year.
The game started with the home team creating the scoring chances. The Beccles defence was solid and twenty minute of pressure lead to only one penalty kick scored against them. Beccles started to come in to the game a bit more and were the first team to score a try. After some scrappy play near the Wisbech try line the ball flew loose and Ling was on hand to crash over and score. Soon after this Wade added a penalty to make the half time score 3-8.
The second half was very tight with both teams creating chances. Beccles were held up over the line on three separate occasions. Wisbeach were the first team to score. They scored a converted try to go in to the lead. Beccles were soon back in front. A charge down by Wilson after the restart put Wisbech under pressure. Rix picked up the ball and powered over in the corner.
Wisbech now came back strongly. Hinsley lead the Beccles defence and was made the White Horse Man of the Match as he made tackle after tackle, ensuring that the opposition didn’t add to their score. Beccles managed to play their way out of defence and were able to score again themselves. Payne received the ball on the twenty-two and struck a sweet dropkick that sailed between the posts. Wisbeach were still within a converted try but Beccles held out and the match finished 10-16.
Next week Beccles travel to Saffron Walden to carry on their superb start in the league. The week after they have drawn Barnet Elizabethans in the cup at home so all supporters would be welcomed (KO 3:00PM).
