BECCLES
12-7 HARROW
Beccles
Bulls moved in to the 3rd round of the EDF Energy Senior Cup with victory
over Harrow. In a tight contest dominated by forward play Beccles were
victorious by 12 -7.
Harrow play their rugby in London Division 4 North West, the same level
as Beccles. Beccles knew they would be in for a tough game but Rix had
nearly a full squad to select from so they were confident of a win.
The first half was very even. Neither side created many chances in a game
that was never allowed to flow. Wade missed a long range penalty for Beccles
before Harrow missed a penalty chance of their own. Harrow were first
on the score sheet. A weak Beccles scrum was lost against the head and
Harrow had a free run in to score a converted try under the posts.
Beccles began to dominate the game more after this. They managed to draw
level with a converted try of their own just before half time. They won
a penalty five meters out and set up a rolling maul which drove over the
line and Thomas touched down. Wade added the conversion and the half time
score was 7-7.
Beccles began to dominate more in the second half. They got on top in
the scrums where White Horse Man of the Match Danny Rix was mastering
his opposite number. With fifteen minutes to go Beccles got Harrow pinned
back in their 22. Good charging down by Hinsley and Gedney didn’t
allow them to clear their lines. Beccles won another short range penalty
and ran the same move they scored from in the first half. They got the
same result with Thomas touching down his second try of the game. The
conversion was missed but Beccles held out for the rest of the game to
win by 12-7.
Beccles play Crusaders on Saturday in the league. There is a presidents
lunch before the game and all support would be welcome (KO 2:30).
