BECCLES
5 - 18 CRUSADERS
A poor first
five minutes cost Beccles their place in the Norfolk Cup after defeat
to Crusaders. Beccles went 12-0 down in the first five minutes but dominated
the rest of the game. The gap was to big though and they lost by 5 –
18.
Beccles had most of their players back from injury and put out a strong
team. The team didn’t start well and Crusaders quickly scored twelve
points with some decisive back play.
Beccles began to take control after this with their forward pack dominating
the line out and scrum. Beccles were next on the score sheet. A penalty
close to the Crusaders line was taken in to contact by Ling. A rolling
maul was set up and the forwards surged over the line with Thomas getting
the touch down. The conversion was missed from the touchline.
Both teams had chances after this but strong defence meant that neither
side could turn pressure in to tries. Crusaders did mange to add two penalties
to further stretch their lead. The half time score was 5-18.
The second half was dominated almost exclusively by Beccles. However,
they didn’t manage to turn the pressure in to points. Gedney was
having a good game at fullback. He defended solidly and looked dangerous
on the attack, he was made the White Horse man of the Match.
Beccles were camped on the Crusaders line for long periods but could not
break down some solid Crusaders defence. Despite all their pressure no
points were added in the second half and the match finished 5 –
18.
Beccles take on Stowmarket at Beef Meadow on Saturday in a must win league
game. If they win they can go in to the second half of the season with
a solid base and look to move up the league (KO. 2:15) There will be a
VP’s Lunch beforehand so all supporters will be welcomed.
