Chelmsford 57-6 Beccles Bulls

Beccles travelled to Chelmsford with six regular starting players missing from the squad. The team struggled to cope with some strong back play from Chelmsford and were easily beaten by 57 – 6.
Beccles were missing Lake, Thomas, Hinsley, Payne, Arnold and Harris through a variety of injuries and unavailability. Rix took the opportunity to give some of the younger players some experience in the first team, as well as bringing some experienced players back in to the side.
Beccles took the lead in the match through a Wade penalty. Chelmsford soon scored a try but Beccles went straight back down the field and some good driving by the forwards earned another penalty which Wade slotted. After this it was all Chelmsford and some poor tackling through out the team lead to five more tries and a penalty in the first half.
Beccles played better in the second half. The scrum started moving forward and Beccles had more of the ball. However, they still couldn’t score and Chelmsford added three more tries and a penalty in the second half. This gave a final score of 57-6.
Beccles travel to Bury St Edmunds in the third round of the EDF Energy Cup on Saturday. Bury are towards the top of London Division 3, the league above Beccles, so they will be hoping they have a few of their unavailable players back for this difficult trip.
