29-7 SOUTHWOLD
Beccles
remained the dominant team in the Waveney area when they beat Southwold
for the Pony Moore Cup. Beccles comfortably beat their local rivals by
29-7 in a physical game.
Hinsley had a good squad to pick from with Payne returning after a two
week absence. Thomas was unavailable so Maaer was given a chance in the
back row. The Bulls started the match with the wind behind them.
Beccles were soon in front when Harris cut a good line through the Southwold
defence and rounded the fullback to score under the posts. Wade added
the conversion. A second was soon added when Rix stretched his lead at
the top of the scoring charts with a powerful surge over the line. Wade
added a conversion and a penalty before Beccles added another try. Payne
had been making incisive runs all afternoon and eventually put himself
in the clear to touchdown. Payne was made the White Horse man of the match.
Wade missed the conversion and the half time score was 22-0.
Beccles took their foot of the gas after halftime and Southwold started
playing some good rugby. They were next on the score sheet with a converted
try. Beccles were soon back in control when Hadridge was able to touch
down after a strong scrum by the Beccles pack. Wade added his final and
most impressive conversion of the afternoon. Southwold rallied hard after
this but the Bulls rarely looked in trouble and they conceded no more
points. The final score was 29-7.
Beccles have their final game on Saturday away at Thurston. Beccles will
be looking for revenge as Thurston are the only team to score two league
tries at Beef Meadow this season. With the league already won they will
be hoping for an impressive performance to say goodbye to Eastern Counties
division 1.
