BECCLES 46 – IPSWICH YMCA 0

Beccles Bulls had a comfortable win over Ipswich YMCA in Eastern Counties Division 1. Their win, by 46-0, kept them at the top of the league table.
Beccles had a few injuries and made a few changes within the team. Turrell came in at fullback and Hadridge played at centre. Johnstone returned to the pack after three games on the bench.
Beccles started strongly and were soon in the lead. The Beccles team dragged the Ipswich defence from one side of the pitch to the other until Turrell was free to touch down in the corner. Holm missed the conversion but soon added a penalty. Beccles had a further score in the first half. Another good move was finished by Gareth Hadridge on his long awaited return to the first team after injury. This gave a half-time score of 15-0.
Beccles dominated the second half and added a further 31 points as their superior fitness began to destroy the opposition. There were two tries for Rix from two battering runs at the opposition defence. Wilson and Thomas also scored tries as the Beccles forwards overpowered their opposition. The final try of the afternoon reflected this as a long driving maul was controlled at the back by Johnstone. He was then unstoppable as he crashed off the back of the maul and went over from ten yards. Holm added the conversion for a decent kicking return of five out of eight.
This was another good all round performance from Beccles. The standout player of the afternoon was Mare. He showed superb tackling and ball stealing skills throughout the game and was made the White Horse man of the match.
The Bulls have a break from league action on Saturday when they play Fakenham in the Powergen cup. They will be hoping their good league form will inspire them to a lengthy cup run.
