| CANTABRIGAN
0 – BECCLES 29
Beccles
stayed at the top of Eastern Counties Division 1 with an impressive away
win at Cantabrigans. The bulls remained undefeated in the league by winning
the match by 0-29.
Hinsley gave a first team debut to Wade on the wing. He also brought in
Danny Rix to replace the injured stone at prop.
Cantabrigans had not been beaten at home for eighteen months and had the
first chance to get on the score sheet with a penalty. After this was
missed it was all Beccles. They opened the scoring with a sniping try
from Hadridge. Hadridge had a positive influence on the game throughout
and was made the Whitehorse man of the match.
Beccles continued to dominate and a driving maul from a lineout led to
this seasons leading scorer Rix touching down. Arnold added the conversion.
After an injury to Turrell Gedney was brought in to the action. He quickly
made an impact by finishing a flowing move by scoring in the corner. A
spectacular long distance conversion was added by Wade. This made the
half time score 19-0.
Cantabrigans put up a better show in the second half but the Bulls still
continued to add to their score. A lineout move straight off the training
pitch left Thomas in acres of space to crash over the line. When Beccles
ran the same move later in the game Thomas was able to feed Gedney who
went over for his second try of the game.
Beccles now take a break from league action to play Norwich in the Norfolk
Cup. Despite being three leagues below Norwich the Bulls will be travelling
away to cause an upset.
