BECCLES 26 - THURSTON 13

Beccles Bulls came from behind to maintain their unbeaten run Eastern Counties Division 1. They came back from 13 points behind to win 26-13.
Beccles started poorly in this game. The opposition scored two early tries, the first to be scored against the Bulls at home in the league this year. Both the tries came from rolling mauls which the Beccles team failed to counteract. Thurston also added a penalty to stretch their lead to thirteen points.
Beccles started to come slowly back in to the game. Two penalty chances were missed before they got on the score sheet just before half time. A quickly taken penalty was spun wide and Wade forced himself over the line for a try in the corner. This gave a half time score of 5-13.
Beccles got a stern talking to by captain Hinsley at half time and the players responded well. Thomas picked up an injury and had to be replaced by Phillips. The Bulls scored again through Wilson. The ball was recycled well by the Beccles pack on a number of occasions and Wilson was unstoppable when the ball came to him five yards out. Arnold then drew Beccles level with a penalty then put them into the lead with another.
It was all Beccles after this and they managed two more tries in the match. The first came after a good hook against the head in the scrum from White Horse man of the match Lake. The ball shot out of the scrum and Hadridge picked up and touched down. The final try came when Harris went over in the corner.
Despite not playing at the levels they have so far this season Beccles still managed to pick up the win. With Holt losing at the weekend Beccles have opened up a small gap at the top of the league. They will be hoping they will find their form again for their visit to local rivals Lowestoft and Yarmouth next Saturday. This will be a top of the table clash in the Bulls final league game of the year.

Beccles II travelled to UEA at the weekend. They put in a good performance against some youthful opposition. After a number of score recounts at the end of the game the teams decided on a 32-32 draw.
