Beccles II 24 - Crusaders III 7 Beccles seconds recorded a first win of the season with many players returning from illness and injury. A tight first 20 minutes saw little opportunity for any scoring with both defences soaking up pressure like a flannel. The games opening try came when Catchpole went into a tackle and off-loaded to skipper Punt to slice through the Crusaders backs from the 22 to score under the posts. Dyer some how managed to fail with the conversion. But he soon made amends for this by receiving the ball out wide from Punt before darting inside leaving the defence behind standing like cactus. The conversion was scored and Beccles had a half time lead of 12 points to zero. Crusaders came out strong in the second half and drove the ball over in to corner and an excellent conversion saw them pull to within 5 points. Some strong driving by the Beccles pack soon got the game beyond reach. Good work from Hunt, Tate, Townsend and Rix in the pack opening up a gap for Holtzer to make a bananary run to score his first try of the season. The final score came from a good break away with quick hands and footwork finally seeing Penny pop inside to debutant Hull to cap an excellent display in the number nine shirt. Dyer converted to make the final score 24 points to 7. T H Landscaping man of the match Gavin Hewitt.
