Beccles II 53 v Watton 15

Beccles seconds took on Watton on Saturday in a friendly at Beef Meadow. Beccles scored regularly throughout the game and finished up winners by 53 – 15.

Beccles started the game well and after a period of pressure Holtzer powered over for the opening score. The next try came when Dyer hacked on a loose ball and won the race to touch down. Dyer also added 13 points with the boot during the game and was made the White Horse man of the match.

Beccles continued to dominate. Beccles were giving a debut to another overseas player. New Zealander Sam Williamson showed throughout the afternoon that he will be a good addition to the first team back line. He added the next try when he beat a number of defenders to score.

As the match moved towards half time Beccles scored again with Porter charging over in the corner. This gave Beccles a lead of 24 - 0 at half time.

Beccles stayed on top at the start of the second half. Williamson added another try when he cut through the opposition defence. Holtzer then added his second. His third was soon to come when he rounded the defence to score under the posts to complete a fine hatrick.

The Beccles backline were carrying the ball well with some fine running by Veasey-Lark and Catchpole. Beccles added another try when a good move was finished off by Gavin Hewitt.

Watton rallied well to their credit and dominated the last fifteen minutes. With Beccles players giving away too many penalties Watton were able to add three tries.

This was another good win on what has been an impressive start to the season by the second team. They continue next week when they travel to Crusaders III in the Norfolk Merit table. Meanwhile the first team entertain Dagenham in the league.
